Installing in under a minute

1

Unzip the download

Double-click Staccato.zip in your Downloads folder. You'll get Staccato.app.

2

Move it to Applications

Drag Staccato.app into your Applications folder so it lives alongside your other apps.

3

Open it the first time

Right-click Staccato.appOpen, then confirm. macOS asks once because the app is distributed outside the App Store; after that it opens normally.

4

Run the one-time engine setup

On first launch, Staccato installs the free MuseScore and LilyPond engraving engines it uses to render scores. This happens once.

Heads up: if you see “Staccato can’t be opened because Apple cannot check it for malicious software,” that's the standard Gatekeeper notice for apps outside the App Store. Use the right-click → Open step above, or allow it under System Settings → Privacy & Security.
Tip: drag Staccato onto your Dock to keep it one click away, then just drop MIDI files onto it.
